MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Alumunium Hydroxide acts on the hydrochloric acid in the stomach by neutralization, forming Aluminium Chloride salt and water. Magnesium Hydroxide increases peristaltic activity causing osmotic retention of fluids, thus resulting in bowel evacuation. It also reduces stomach acid by reacting with hydrochloric acid to form Magnesium Chloride. Simethicone lowers surface tension and facilitates gas dispersion by causing coalescence of gas bubbles in the GI tract, thus helping in their dispersion.

INDICATIONS:
Alox is used in gastrointestinal disorders manifested with the hyperacidity and increased gas production. May be administered as monotherapy or in combinations for the treatment of gastro-oesophagitis reflux, chronic diarrhoea, non ulcer dyspepsia.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
In patients with the renal insufficiency becouse of the risk of increase of magnesium and aluminium serum concentration due to the decreased excretion through the kidneys. Do not use in patients allergic to magnesium and aluminium.

SIDE EFFECTS:
Nausea, constipation may occur in some patients.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:
No drug interactions are known. There is no evidence that simethicone modifies the effects of other drugs.
