Each 5ml contains:
It is a complex of the disaccharide sugar, sucrose, combined with sulfate and aluminum. It is minimally absorbed into the body, and its actions are entirely on the lining of the stomach and duodenum. Sucralfate is in a class of medications called protectants.
MECHANISM OF ACTION::
Sucralfate reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach to form a cross-linking, viscous, paste-like material capable of acting as an acid buffer for as long as 6 to 8 hours after a single dose. It also attaches to proteins on the surface of ulcers, such as albumin and fibrinogen, to form stable insoluble complexes. These complexes serve as protective barriers at the ulcer surface, preventing further damage from acid, pepsin, and bile.
Indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Constipation, dry mouth, upset stomach, gas, and nausea, rash, itching.
Antacids that contain aluminum, certain antibiotics (e.g., quinolones), ranitidine, theophylline, thyroid medications (e.g., levothyroxine).
As directed by the physician.
Store in a cool place. Protect from direct sunlight.
