MECHANSIM OF ACTION:

The bactericidal action of gentamicin is based on an irreversible inhibition of the bacterial protein synthesis. Gentamicin elicits rapid bacterial action by acting directly on the bacterial ribosome, where it disrupts the normal cycle of ribosomal function. Additionally, gentamicin includes misreading of the genetic code of the mRNA template, leading to incorporation of incorrect amino acids into the growing polypeptide chain. Betamethasone sodium phosphate is a potent glucocorticoid steroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties.

Used in bacterial eye infections and ear infections.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Known hypersensitivity to gentamicin or any ingredient in the formulation & patients with fungal infections.

Other drugs, especially those that affect the kidneys, can interact with gentamicin resulting in dangerous side effects and/or decreased effectiveness. Do not take any other prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products, without first talking to your doctor during treatment with gentamicin.
