TOSLIX -M COUGH SYRUP

DESCRIPTION:
Toslix-M is a cough reliever formula containing Dextromethorphan, Bromhexine HCI, Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Guaiphenesin and menthol. This combination is an antitussive, mucolytic, antihistaminic and act as expectorant.

COMPOSITION: 
Each 5ml contains: 
Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP 5 mg
Bromhexine Hydrochloride BP 4 mg
Chlorpheniramine Maleate BP 2 mg
Guaiphenesin BP 50 mg
Menthol BP 1.5 mg
Flavored syrup base q.s. 
Colors : Tartrazine and Brilliant Blue

MECHANISM OF ACTION: Toslix-M afford relief in cough due to their action in the CNS to raise the threshold of cough center or act peripherally in the respiratory tract to reduce tussal impulses, and have anti cholinergic actions. It acts on the mucus at the formative stages in the glands, within the mucus-secreting cells. it disrupts the structure of acid mucopolysaccharide fibres in mucoid sputum and produces less viscous mucus, which is easier to expectorate. It blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in body.

PHARMACOKINETICS:
Toslix-M is completely absorbed from G.I. tract, Peak plasma concentrations can be attained in 1-2 hours & both are excreted unchanged in urine. Peak concentration of the major metabolite was 1.6 to 1.7 hours. Onset of effect is rapid, often beginning 15 to 30 minutes after oral ingestion.

INDICATIONS:
Toslix-M is used to treat symptoms associated with the common cold, allergies sinusitis, or bronchitis This combination of cough suppressant and expectorant medicines is used to treat cough due to colds, flu or hay fever, Also phlegm (lung secretions) may become less thick after using this medication along with fluids. Complete relief from dry cough & cough due to cold. It is an antitussive, is used to relieve a nonproductive cough caused by a cold, the flu, or other conditions. It is used to treat sneezing; runny nose; itching, watery eyes; hives; rashes; itching; and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold. Used in the treatment of respiratory disorders associated with viscid or excessive mucus.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: As directed by the physician.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

PRECAUTIONS: Dextromethorphan should not be given to patients at risk of developing respiratory failure. May cause drowsiness. Sedative materials like alcohol should be avoided.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Hypertensive crisis in patients receiving MAOIs. & drugs like fluoxetine, and haloperidol. Enhance the effects of sedatives like alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesics.

SIDE-EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, G.I. disturbances, Excitation, Confusion & respiratory depression may occur after overdose.

STORAGE: Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C . Protect from light and moisture.
