Roxithromycin is a semi-synthetic broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic. It is only effective against bacterial infections and not against viral or fungal infections.
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Roxithromycin prevents bacteria from growing, by interfering with their protein synthesis. Roxithromycin binds to the subunit 50S of the bacterial ribosome, and thus inhibits the translocation of peptides.
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections, uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, middle-ear infections.
Hypersensitivity to roxithromycin, any other macrolides antibiotic eg, azithromycin, clarithromycin, erythromycin or any of the ingredients.
