MECHANISM OF ACTION:
The bactericidal action of gentamicin is based on an irreversible inhibition of the bacterial protein synthesis. Gentamicin elicits rapid bacterial action by acting directly on the bacterial ribosome, where it disrupts the normal cycle of ribosomal function. The corticosteroids are thought to act by controlling the rate of synthesis of proteins important for chemotactic and immunologic reactions.

INDICATIONS:
Used to treat many types of bacterial infections including conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, particularly those caused by gram-negative organisms.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS :
Contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any components of this product.

SIDE EFFECTS:
Eye stinging/burning/redness or temporary blurred vision may occur.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Other drugs, especially those that affect the kidneys, can interact with gentamicin resulting in dangerous side effects and/or decreased effectiveness. Corticosteroids (e.g., dexamethasone, prednisone), duloxetine, drugs to treat diabetes (e.g., glyburide, insulin), live bacterial vaccines, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen), probenecid, theophylline, warfarin should be used with caution.
