Each capsule contains:
(as enteric-coated pellets)
Omeprazole-20 contains an enteric coated granule formulation of Omeprazole. Omeprazole is a substituted benzimidazole derivative.
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Omeprazole is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by specific inhibition of the H+/K+-ATPase in the gastric parietal cell. By acting specifically on the proton pump, omeprazole blocks the final step in acid production, thus reducing gastric acidity.
Indicated for hyperacidity and GERD (gastro-oesophagal Reflux Disease).
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to substituted benzimidazoles or to any component of the formulation.
Elimination of escitalopram and warfarin may increase if they are used concomitantly with omeprazole. Omeprazole has the potential to partly inhibit the metabolism of drugs metabolised to a great extent by the cytochrome P450 enzyme (phenytoin, diazepam)
Omimac-20 is well tolerated. Nausea, headache, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain, flatulence have been reported occasionally.
As prescribed by the physician.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
- Omeprazole capsules should preferably be taken in the morning before food.
- Omeprazole capsules should be swallowed whole and not opened, chewed or crushed.
