ORTHOMAC GEL

Orthomac gel contains Diclofenac diethylamine which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic properties. Linseed oil is rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA belongs to a group of a substance called omega-3 fatty acid which helps to reduce inflammation. Methyl Salicylate acts as a counter rubefacient by stimulating the superficial afferent nerves from the same spinal segments that supply the painful muscles. Menthol has some local anaesthetic and counterirritant qualities and also acts as a weak kappa opioid receptor agonist making it an analgesic as well.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Diclofenac acts by reducing the inflammation by inhibiting the COX-isoenzyme and thereby decreasing the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. At high tissue concentration Diclofenac appears to have the capacity to act as a sodium channel blocker to mediate local-anaesthetic like effects on nociceptive afferent fibres. Linseed oil helps to reduce inflammation in distinct phases, firstly an acute phase of local vasodilatation and increased capillary permeability. Methyl Salicylate is topically used to cause dilation of the capillaries thereby increasing blood flow to the area. Menthol has the ability to chemically trigger the cold-sensitive TRPM8 receptors in the skin is responsible for its cooling sensation when applied to the skin. It enhances the efficacy of other topical applications by increasing penetration via vasodilation.
