TICIN SUSPENSION

DESCRIPTION: TICIN Suspension contains the active ingredient Erythromycin Estolate, which is a type of medicine known as a macrolide antibiotic. It is used to treat infections caused by bacteria.

COMPOSITION:
Each 5ml contains:
Erythromycin Estolate BP
Equivalent to Erythromycin base 100 mg
Colour: Sunset Yellow

MECHANISM: Erythromycin affects the function of 30s or 50s ribosomal subunits to cause a reversible inhibition of protein synthesis. Without these proteins, the bacteria cannot grow, replicate and increase in numbers. Erythromycin doesn’t directly kill the bacteria but leaves them unable to increase in numbers; the remaining bacteria eventually die or are destroyed by the immune system. This treats the infection.

PHARMACOKINETICS: TICIN is incompletely but adequately absorbed from the upper part of the small intestine. It diffuses readily into intracellular fluids and antibacterial activity can be achieved at sites except the brain and Cerebro Spinal Fluid. Its protein binding ranges from 40% to 70% only. 2% to 5% of orally administered drug is excreted in active form in the urine.

INDICATIONS: TICIN can be used for the treatment of Pneumonia. It is the drug of choice for Legionella pneumonia and a good alternative to tetracyclines for chlamydial infections and mycoplasmas. TICIN can be considered as an alternative to penicillin for the treatment of infection caused by streptococcal pharyngitis.

Types of infections treated:
- Streptococcal infections (drug of choice for erythromycin when penicillin allergy exists)
- Syphilis, pelvic infections, gonorrhea
- Bacterial infections of the middle ear (otitis media) or outer ear canal (otitis externa)
- Bacterial mouth infections, gum disease (gingivitis, Vincent’s angina)
- Bacterial infection of the eyelids (blepharitis)
- Inflammation of bone due to bacterial infection (osteomyelitis)
- Inflammation of the bladder due to bacterial infection (cystitis)
- Inflammation of the prostate gland due to bacterial infection (prostatitis)
- Diphtheria
- Whooping cough
Prevention of bacterial infection following surgery, burns, trauma or dental procedures

SIDE EFFECTS: TICIN may sometimes cause: Fever, Nausea, Vomiting & Abdominal cramps
NURSING MOTHERS: It is excreted in breast milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when it is administered to a nursing woman.

DRUG INTERACTION: It has been reported to potentiate the effect of astemizole, carbamazepine, corticosteroids, digoxin, ergot alkaloids and theophylline.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: As directed by the Physician.

STORAGE: Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Protect from light.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: TICIN may be contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to this antibiotic. It is also contraindicated in case of liver insufficiency.

PRECAUTIONS: TICIN is principally excreted in the liver. Caution should be exercised when it is administered to patients with impaired hepatic function. Prolonged or repeated use of Erythromycin may result in an overgrowth of non-susceptible bacteria or fungi. If super infection occurs, therapy should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted.
