DESCRIPTION:
Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold or flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections. Linezolid also belongs to a class of drugs known as MAO inhibitors. It can increase the levels of certain natural substances in the body (such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin), increasing the chance of specific side effects and food and drug interactions.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Linezolid is a synthetic, antibacterial agent that belongs to a new class of antimicrobials, oxazolidinones. It has in vitro activity against aerobic Gram-positive bacteria and anaerobic micro-organisms. Linezolid selectively inhibits bacterial protein synthesis via a unique mechanism of action. Specifically, it binds to a site on the bacterial ribosome (23S of the 50S subunit). It prevents the formation of a functional 70S initiation complex, an essential component of the translation process.
INDICATIONS:
Linezolid is used to treat infections, including pneumonia and skin infections.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the product.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Diarrhea, headache, nausea, vomiting, or dizziness may occur. Tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly if any of these effects last or get worse.
