Octinoxate is chemically 2-Ethylhexyl (2E)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate and belongs to the group of compounds called cinnamates, its primary use is in sunscreens and other cosmetics to absorb UV-B rays from the sun, which are the primary cause of sunburn. Avobenzone is chemically 1-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-3-(4-tert-butyl phenyl) propane-1, 3-dione, an oil-soluble ingredient to absorb the full spectrum of UVA rays. Oxybenzone is chemically (2-Hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-phenyl methanone and belongs to the group of compounds called benzophenones, it absorbs UVB and short-wave UVA (ultraviolet) rays. It was one of the first compounds incorporated into sunscreen formulations.

What is SPF?
SPF of a product is the ratio of the time required for a person’s protected skin to redden after being exposed to sunlight compared to the time required for the same person’s unprotected skin to redden. For example, a product with SPF27 as Torque’s Sunscreen lotion ‘Umbrella’ means that a person whose unprotected skin would redden in ten minutes can apply the product and stay in the sun 27 times longer, or 270 minutes (around 4 hours and 30 minutes) before they get a sunburn.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Sunscreens act either by reflecting or absorbing harmful UV rays so that it does not reach the skin.

SIDE EFFECTS:
Dryness and tightness in the skin. Acne, rashes or stinging sensation may occur in some cases.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
No studies have been done to study the effect of this product during pregnancy. Sunscreen agents have been reported not to cause any problems in nursing babies.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Umbrella sunscreen lotion should be applied at least 20-30 minutes before sun exposure so that product absorbs into the skin. Apply around one fingertip unit evenly and liberally on the face & required amount on other parts of the body exposed to the sun. Reapply, if necessary after prolonged physical activity.

WARNINGS:
Avoid contact with eyes, discontinue if signs of irritation or rash appear. Do not use the product on broken skin and for serious burns.

STORAGE:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Keep all medicines out of the reach of the children.
